Smokers, enjoy it while lasts? By it, I’m referring to the right to smoke in public places, in certain area of Texas. Senator Rodney Ellis is attempting to gain some momentum with a n initiative that would ban smoking in all workplaces, public restaurants and bars. This would be a huge change for our state, being that such laws that are found in eastern and western urban areas do not often find their way in our Texan culture.
Let me get right down to my opinion here and say that I find the restaurant ban fair and beneficial to everyone, including smokers. Banning smoking in bars though? Why don’t you just tell the watering hole owners to close their doors for cryin’ out loud; it’d have the same effect. Seriously, when I’m in a bar, I notice anywhere from 75 to 90% of people smoking. If I didn’t want to be in that environment, I’d take my rear home and enjoy a beer there. The fact is, people know that a bar atmosphere is smoky, loud, and probably not the healthiest for you. A couple hours once a month for me isn’t going to make an impact on my health, and for those who are already smokers, they’ve made that choice to suffer consequences.
In conclusion, I can’t say I fully agree with what Sen. Ellis is up to, but I must commend his efforts. Sorta, kinda, maybe. Read more: Houston senator now seeking to leash smokers statewide

I read some news this morning that really is a step in the right direction for the city. Some flood warning equipment has been tested at one of Houston’s deadly rain overflow spots, which is the beginning of an initiative headed by U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee. Recently there were fatalities due to dangerous flood water levels on some of the frontage roads, and hopefully this new equipment of flashing flood warning lights will help end such terrible incidents. If you’ve ever experienced a Houston rain storm, you know how dangerous it can be to drive. Read more: Flood warning equipment tested at deadly Houston site
Rockets, THANK YOU for the win. It’s been too long since our boys have brought home a victory; agreed? I’ve got my fingers crossed that these guys have sparked what could be a mini-streak because we sure could use it. Watching in disappointment as out lead dwindles away time and time again is quite simply too painful to bear. Let’s get it together, Rockets! Read more: NBA: Houston 105, Philadelphia 84
