Jeff Van Gundy was fired by/from the The Rockets organization today, and I’m not happy about it. Am I alone here or are y’all frustrated as well?
Burning through coach after coach is not what will make our hometown boys on the court win a championship. Good playing is what will boost us into a finals situations and secure a title next season. Van Gundy did a great job this past season and I was proud to have him coaching Yao, T Mac, Juwan and the gang.
What is comes down to is that we took horrible half-arsed shots from outside the paint and did not rebound well. The others team(s) did, and that is why we’re not moving forward towards a title. I don’t mean to give up hope on our Rockets in addition to my love/hate relationship with the disAstros, but it’s hard to keep faith when your local teams are “managed” so horrifically.
p.s. - If you’re wondering, I gave up on the Texans a LONG time ago…

- The stats: 1 - Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville (6-2, 287); 3 - Jacoby Jones, WR, Lane (6-3, 210); 4 - Fred Barnett, CB, South Carolina (6-1, 195); 5 - Brandon Harrison, SS, Stanford (6-2, 227); 5 - Brandon Frye, T, Virginia Tech (6-4, 301); 6 - Kasey Studdard, G, Texas (6-2, 303); 7 - Zach Diles, LB, Kansas State (6-2, 230)
I found it to be a surprise that our team took on a D-lineman as their first pick (3rd consecutive time) but on the same note our Texans have a hell of a time trying to stop the ground game and Okoye will likely be able to help in that aspect. Kubiak’s squad still lacks a strong starter in his secondary, blah. Jones is going to have a heck of a learning curve with coming out of Division II and into the big-time. I have faith in the guy though, hopefully Kubiak will too (probably not).
Diles was also a noteworthy deal, being that not many services rated him as darft-worthy. Overall they could have done better for Houston, but it’s mediocre behavior that’s all-too-common for the Houston Texas.
