For fans of all the great outdoor events held in Houston particularly at this beautiful time of year, you’ll be delighted to hear that our very own Miller Outdoor Theatre will be hosting an adaptation of The Berenstain Bears this Saturday and Sunday. The Bears will start their on-stage event at 7:30pm, lasting for an hour each night.
“The books that inspired this new musical production are five of the best-selling Berenstain Bears books from the hundreds in the series. Audiences will enjoy the Bears’ charm and wisdom as they come to life on stage. Bear Country Joe, the self-proclaimed “world’s foremost expert on the Berenstain Bears,” leads audiences through the five Bear tales, and reinforces the moral of each story.
In the first scene, Mama and Papa Bear discover Brother Bear is lonely as an only cub, and surprise him with the news of a baby on the way. The show follows Brother and Sister Bear as they learn the values of keeping their room clean, standing up for themselves against bullies, telling the truth to build trust, and finally, the importance of humility. Lawrence’s delightful songs like Parents, Home Sweet Tree, You Can’t Make the Truth Out of a Lie, and You Gotta Practice enhance the action of the play, and add to the unique experience as these timeless characters come to life.
Stan Berenstain designed the sets and worked with Omaha Theater Company for “page to stage” authenticity. “Berenstain Bears On Stage!” looks like a page right out of a storybook– a Berenstain Bears storybook, to be exact. Bright and bold, children and adults familiar with the Berenstain’s simple stories will feel right at home in Bear Country.” - SOURCE

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has announced the full fight card for UFC 69: Shootout! I’m a major UFC fan and will be catching the game wherever I can. BW3s and Hooters are usually way too packed to try and watch the fights there. Anyone have any recommended places that serve a cold beer?
Looking forward to…
- Georges St-Pierre vs. Matt Serra (should be a great match)
Diego Sanchez vs. Josh Koscheck (Sanchez is a Houston local)
Roger Huerta vs. Leonard Garcia
Mike Swick vs. Yushin Okami
Alan Belcher vs. Kendall Grove

Thales Leites vs. Pete Sell
Marcus David v.s. Pete Spratt

Rascall Flatts, who? Just kidding, but that was the sentiment of many last night who were initially bummed out about the pop-countryish group Rascall Flatts canceling at the last moment due to illness but were rocked by their replacements. Local Houstonians Jack Ingram and Clay Walker along with Joe Nichols gladly filled the void in fans’ hearts and won them over with a show that rocked the place.
First on stage was Nichols who kicked the festivities off with some of his popular tunes, and was well received despite sound problems. *sidenote: Houston Rodeo organizers, get the darn sound problems worked out, okay? Two times is TOO MUCH*
Second up, big Jack Ingram. The guy floored the audience and had folks hootin’ and hollarin’ left ‘n’ right. This seemed to easily be the best performance out of the three.
Lastly, you know Clay Walker wouldn’t let his hometown down, right? The guy’s a favorite and loved by many. Big ups to him and the other two for giving everyone their money’s worth.
I’ll be checking out the carnival tonight and have my fingers crossed that rain doesn’t spoil the fun. To those that have been, what should I expect?
