Austin’s electric cars to power city during the day
March 27th, 2007Austin’s mayor has unveiled a very, very cool plan to help out with a mismatched supply and demand issue of power. Check this out…
There are a lot of hippy-types in Austin, and and a good percentage of them drive electric cars. I’m not being stereotypical, it’s just the truth
Peak usage hours for these cars and electricity in general is, as you’d guess, during the day. So, to help out with supplying the necessary power while the hustle and bustle goes on, Austin is going to capture wind.
Here’s how it breaks down…
The highest winds that have the most potential for power, blow during the NIGHT. The highest usage is during the DAY. So, while Austinites and their electric cars are sleeping, they’ll be powered up by plugging in and soaking up wind-harvested energy.
Austinites get into their econo-rides and go to work, but while they’re toiling away during daytime work hours, the cars are plugged in at their parking lot and delivering energy to the city’s main power grid. Get energy at night, distribute it during the day, AWESOME.
I’m just wondering how long it’ll take to make this a reality…
