Mayor Bill White honored for how he’s dealt with NOLA influx
March 13th, 2007
If someone were to ask us as a whole how we felt about the whole NOLA/Katrina disaster, the response would resoundingly be that indeed it wss a disaster for both New Orleans, and Houston. Yes, HOUSTON.
Crime has gone up, streets filled with horrible drivers from Lousiana, apartment complexes teeming with NOLA criminals, the list goes on. These are all effects from the rush of impovershed Katrina victims staking claim in our city. With all the bad though, I along with John F. Kennedy Library Foundation commend Mayor Bill White’s efforts to control and improve these NOLA-negatives in addition to how level-headed he maintained when Houston was about the be hit with its own natural disaster (Rita).
The Foundation in Boston, MA awards people in public positions on a yearly basis. Those who are selected make “courageous decisions of conscience without regard for the personal or professional consequences.” Way to go Mayor White!
To close, here’s something worth noting: Over 100,000 evacuees came to our city due to Katrina, and a majority of them have stayed and do not plan to leavre. Additionally, murder and overall crime is up drastically in areas where NOLAs reside. If anyone has current statistics, please post them via a comment.
