When will the perpetual ghetto mind-state be broken? (Part 2)
March 9th, 2007
Yesterday afternoon I wrote the first part of this multi-post entry which is about the ghetto mind-state that some folks let dictate their actions, and ultimately their entire lives. I sighted an example of this, citing news this week that broke when a multi-person drug shooting went down followed by the witnesses (local residents/transients) stealing the deaceased’s weed from the streets. Abhorable, isn’t it? It’s sad that the aforementioned is all too common in low-income areas across the U.S. and in Houston.
The question that arises from all this violence, ignorance and resistance to social progress is “when will it end!?”. Last night after I wrapped up the first part of this topic, I thought about what could break this perpetual less-than-desireable existence for both those who embrace and hate it. I have to be honest with y’all and say that my thoughts lead to a rather dark conclusion.
“We trynna hot wire cars and break pad locks/Turn South the hard droppin in glad locks/In drop flashy cars and get mad props/And still I wont change” - Lil Flip
It’s this mentality that is so widespread that those who embrace it as a badge of hood-honor will end up separating themselves further, while those who embrace doing the right things and moving forward with social evolution will raise in class. Whether you feel differently or agree with me, please leave your feedback via the comment function and let’s hope for the best because we all know (whether we like it or not) that eradicating widespread crime in rundown urban areas isn’t coming to an end any time soon.
