When will the perpetual ghetto mind-state be broken? (Part 1)
March 8th, 2007
The answer to the aforementioned question is not soon enough. What I am referring to has been so violently illustrated in the incident which happened at the 5600 block of Selinsky. This ‘hood area was witness to a man being shot and dumped out the passenger side of a Chevy coupe, and although it’s not clear who shot who and what person ran where, there was a group of men involved in a shooting, of which all fled besides the one that died on the scene.
Now, you’d think someone would call for help, get to the wounded’s side, etc., and you’re partially right. I say partially because this is the ghetto we’re talking about here, not The Woodlands, Katy, or Clear Lake. On the 5600 block of Selinsky, residents rob the dead of their illegal drugs and flee to their “homes”, which is precisely what went down yesterday.
It’s obvious the shooting(s) are/were drug related, but that pales in comparison to the larger problem at hand. What I’m referring to is the “ghetto mind-state”; a thinking that dictates a way of like that produces criminal activity which further breeds criminal activity and so on. Call it a vicious cycle, call it bad parenting, call it what you will, but thinking that it is acceptable/necessary/enjoyable to pick the weed off a dying/dead man in your street is simply sickening and is unfortunately all too familiar in the news.
I’ll continue with the rest of this post tomorrow as I ponder what could possibly break the chain of low-income urban inhumanity and when. Until then my friends, I welcome your feedback.
