Our team announced today that opening day festivities will be held on this coming Monday, April 2nd at Minute Maid park. The game to be played that night to start the season will be against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and I’ve got a feeling it will be a well-played game with our boys securing a win in the end. Unfortunately, if you don’t already have tickets, opening day for the Astros is sold out.
The gates at Minute Maid park downtown will open at 3 in the afternoon, while pregame ceremonies get started at 5:30. Look below for the day full schedule of Houston baseball celebration…

This is Texas, where when someone’s threatening your life, you shoot first and ask questions later. Gotta love this state, right? Governor Rick Perry signed a bill yesterday that expands our state’s deadly force rights. Thank goodness there are still folks in power that don’t pansie out on issues like this. (I can hear the angry comments coming now…)
The bill gives Texans a more definite right to legally defend themselves with “deadly force” when in their residence, vehicles and places of work. All too often we hear of someone being carjacked, mugged, beaten, etc. and the low-life using a gun during the crime. I urge you all to put yourselves in that position mentally and think about trying to survive. Guns are scary for many people, and I’m aware of this, but often times it can save lives to be carrying legally. Keep in mind though, never brandish your firearm unless you intend to use it. Always be licensed and well versed in firearm safety.
Back to the bill… both chambers of our legislature overwhelmingly approved this gun law a few weeks ago, making it easy for Perry to sign. The bill’s backed by the NRA (National Rifle Association) and it states that a Texan does NOT need to retreat from intruders before using deadly force. Lehman’s terms: when someone’s intruding, shoot first, ask questions later.
15 other states have widely passed similar legislature.

Austin’s mayor has unveiled a very, very cool plan to help out with a mismatched supply and demand issue of power. Check this out…
There are a lot of hippy-types in Austin, and and a good percentage of them drive electric cars. I’m not being stereotypical, it’s just the truth
Peak usage hours for these cars and electricity in general is, as you’d guess, during the day. So, to help out with supplying the necessary power while the hustle and bustle goes on, Austin is going to capture wind.
Here’s how it breaks down…
The highest winds that have the most potential for power, blow during the NIGHT. The highest usage is during the DAY. So, while Austinites and their electric cars are sleeping, they’ll be powered up by plugging in and soaking up wind-harvested energy.
Austinites get into their econo-rides and go to work, but while they’re toiling away during daytime work hours, the cars are plugged in at their parking lot and delivering energy to the city’s main power grid. Get energy at night, distribute it during the day, AWESOME.
I’m just wondering how long it’ll take to make this a reality…
