Yesterday in Houston, the trial for Mayor Bill White’s daughter Elena began. I wrote earlier in the week in regards to this story that’s created quite a buzz about town. As I suspected might very well happen, there have been some confessions on the part of the arresting officer.

The officers’ name is Nicholas Derkowski, and he has testified that some part of the sobriety test he administered were performed incorrectly and additionally that more in-depth testing was done off camera. I find it strange that the camera would not have caught all of the arrest. Do you? I am unsure of what this means both sides of the case, but it’s certainly an important development.

The video from the arrest (what was caught on camera) was shown in court to those in attendance, and apparently Elena did not seem as intoxicated as previously reported by Derkowski. Her behavoir was leaning more towards a sober demeanor; which is good for Elena’s defense. It’s a defense headed by the high profile attorney Rusty Hardin, who her father hired specifically for this case. Lucky for Elena, her Dad has these connections, as many of us in Houston would not be able to afford or secure such an attorney of similar caliber.

Testimony will resume today and at least three more officers are anticipated to take the stand. I’ll keep you guys ‘n’ gals updated on what pops up from here on in. It’ll be crucial to the success of the case in terms of both the defense and prosecution all around, to keep the spotlight off the seventeen year old’s relationship with our city’s mayor and on the case itself.
