November 2nd, 2006The “Houston Are You Board” Event Combines Visual Art with Skateboard Culture to Support the Central Houston Skatepark
HOUSTON, TX – October 18, 2006 – The Houston Parks Board has partnered with Public Use Skateparks for Houston (P.U.S.H) a local organization, in support of building the city’s first public skatepark. Through this alliance, “Houston, Are You Board?” a skateboard deck art auction, photography and film retrospective on Houston’s skate culture will be held from 7 to 12 p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2006 at Commerce Street Warehouse, 2315 Commerce Street, and from 7 to 11 p.m. Local and national artists have been invited to contribute their own uniquely envisioned artwork utilizing blank skateboard decks for their canvas. The events are free to the public and are sponsored by The Houston Parks Board and Spacetaker.
The exhibition is an event organized to promote awareness and raise funds for the Central Houston Skatepark. The goal of the Central Houston Skatepark is to build one of the finest skateparks in the United States and to provide thousands of Houstonians with a free and safe place for skateboarding and inline skating. “Houston, Are You Board?” is the ideal venue to raise awareness and funds to launch this project, to be located at the end of Sabine Street along Houston’s beautiful Allen Parkway and slated to open in Spring 2007. All proceeds from the events will go toward helping P.U.S.H. achieve its objective. The art auction will be a silent format. Artists Christian Azul and Gonzo247 will curate the show which will also feature artists such as Sket One, Mad, Dalek, give up, Color One, Joey Potts, and many more.
