Downtown Houston welcomes its new park Discovery Green
October 19th, 2006The Houston Downtown Park Conservancy has announced the new super-park’s handle @ what was the ground-breaking ceremony. The 93 million-dollar project will go by “Discovery Green“.
The name was selected from over 6200 entries and had been submitted by Kim Borja. Amongst the rather large group of entries were names such as “The Big Howdy” and “Chuck Norris Park”. (lol)
You’ll find Discovery Green across the street from the GBCC (George R. Brown Convention Center), ranking in at 12 acres. Here are some of the features you can look forward to…
* One-acre pond
* Playground and children’s areas (with puppet theaters!)
* Interactive fountain
* Outdoor ampitheater
* Doggie park
* Jogging trail
* Wifi accessible indoor and outdoor ‘reading room’ areas
* Old oak promenade
* Recreation fields
