Standalone FTP Client > Dreamweaver FTP
September 30th, 2006Recently I became fairly annoyed with my host, 1and1, due to the horrid connection quality I was having to deal with when uploading and downloading files via FTP (file transfer protocol). After several attempts to have them correct what I believed to be the problem, they chose not to answer my e-mails (apparently a widespread issue among 1and1 users). So, I was left with hardly any connectivity to my webspace. This would not do. No, not at all.

After having re-evaluated the situation, I thought “hey, I’ll give FlashFXP a try again”. I had stopped using FlashFXP due to my success with Dreamweaver’s built-in FTP function, not due to any fault on FlashFXP’s part. I downloaded the program from the official site and installed it with wham, bam, thank you ma’am quickness- a painless install that took no more than a few seconds of my time.
As sure as Texas has proved its greatness once again, FlashFXP gained me speedy accesss to my webspace and made me aware of just how much frustration Dreamweaver (not my host, althought they still lost points for bad customer service) had caused me recently! I swore never to use Dreamweaver for up/downs to my 1and1 account, or any other future account, ever again.
If you’re curious as to what was specifically going on inside of Dreamweaver; it was time-outs, lost connections, and mid-upload errors of all sorts. Never again will I be subject to the file transfer horrors of my favorite web publishing program Dreamweaver; thanks to my newly reacquainted friend, FlashFXP.
It should be noted that there are many other standalone FTP clients that would probably do the trick for me, such as CuteFTP, etc., etc., however my preference is FlashFXP.
